Yanagibashi Market is a lively and bustling fish and fresh food market that is one of the more interesting things to do in Fukuoka city. Not to be confused with the commercial Nagahamafish market on the other side of town, a visit to Yanagibashi Rengo Market, or “Fukuoka’s Kitchen,” as it’s colloquially known, gives you a peek into the everyday lives of locals. The market has around 70 stalls selling fish, vegetables, and various local products and is just a 10-minute walk from either Tenjin or Hakata stations.

Be sure to sample the local Fukuoka specialty “Karachi Mentaiko” which can be purchased at many of the stalls. It’s a spicy marinated cod roe and Fukuoka’s version of it is said to be the best with its unique freshness and spicy bite.
